This article says that the Indian Child Welfare Act prevents an Indian child from being adopted outside the tribe without the permission of the tribe.
I am smack in the middle of Indian Territory and I call bull on that statement. In Oklahoma treatment of Indian children by their tribe of origin runs the full gamut from NO tribe involvement to full tribal intervention.
It just depends on the tribe.
Should Indian children be assimilated into white famikies? At what cost to their culture, tribal connections and traditional lands.
If a child is not on a roll......you can forget him. He can be 100%!!(MISSING)a(MISSING)nd as long as that role number isn't on that child's jacket.....he does exist in the eyes of a tribe.
