The Howard's Case #10 #HowardsForeverChanged My name is Renee Howard. On December 18th, 2013 a case manager and public health nurse came to my house to interview myself and my five children. The accusation was a dirty house and an unkept daughter. I was the mom of a newborn and in reality the unkeptness of my daughter was eczema. Sometimes CPS creates accusations that develop into far more than they really are. Let's call it "fabrication of evidence." Believe it or not hearsay is admissible in dependency court. It wasn't long before they changed their wording into "medical neglect" on the documentation. The truth is my children were provided for. They had a roof over their head, a bed to sleep in and food in their bellies. I will never forget my kids screaming the second time they came back to visit us, just days after the first time. This time they claimed they had a warrant. I asked to see it but they wouldn't show it to me, instead they threatened to break down the door if I didn’t open it. They didn't take jurisdiction of my families case for six months. We went into mediation with our documents and records and the Social Worker looked over them and stated she wasn't going to change her report. Our family was then put on a program the state of California calls "Family Maintenance." We completed all the suggested parenting classes and went to counseling just like they asked. After six months of visits multiple times a week the case was dismissed in January of 2014. But I want the world to know this wasn't our first case...... they stole one of my other children in 1993 and adopted her out in 2000. Then in 2013 they took 3 more of my children and left two with me! Are you losing count, I'm not!! 2 out of 6 children are with me now. How does any of this make sense?
