Photo - ARIZONA STRIKES AGAIN "Arizona Department of Child Safety (DCS) has taken four beautiful girls from their home after they learned Mom was feeding them an organic diet known as GAPS http://bit.ly/2aCYC1K The GAPS diet eliminates processed sugars, artificial sweeteners, nitrates, GMOs, non-organic foods, and food sensitivities specific to her individual children (such as gluten, soy, tree nuts, peanuts, and other common allergens per GAPS guidelines and pediatrician’s written recommendation). The diet was developed by a neurologist for kids with special needs and learning disorders (2 of her girls have an autism diagnoses, the other 2 are considered “at risk” for autism). DCS considers the removal of the above ingredients/additives as “medically dangerous” and uses the children’s short stature as evidence of starvation. I am a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) and Certified GAPS Practitioner. Mom reached out to me for help after DCS's initial threat of intent to remove the children. I have an expertise in the nutritional needs of children with autism and was the only RDN after 100+ phone calls willing to say, "YES, I will help you and your children." After a lengthy assessment, I found the children to be in good health and well-fed with wholesome foods by mom. I am certain that metabolic factors, NOT a lack of nutrition, is what is causing their short statures. Despite my extensive assessments and medical reports provided to DCS detailing the children’s healthy condition, they were removed and placed in foster care on June 30, 2016.
