A HUGE win for Shawn McMillan occurred yesterday in a California courthouse when a jury returned their verdict after a seven week long trial in the Duval case. Rafaelina Duval was suing the county for millions of dollars after her child was taken from her without a warrant even though no emergency existed. Her allegations included civil rights violations, disability discrimination and intentional infliction of emotional distress. The judge recommended that no damages be awarded, but said if the jury was inclined to do, the amount should not exceed $30,000 however the jury returned with a THREE MILLION DOLLAR award not including the punitive damages that will be awarded today.
